The use of ozone in hydroponic agricultural applications is expanding as farmers seek to increase crop yields, reduce operating costs and reduce environmental degradation by minimizing the use of water and chemicals on the farm.

Significant water and nutrient savings can be achieved by re-using the feed water in a closed recirculating system, but the potential for disease outbreaks is greatly increased, so these risks needs to be carefully managed, in a cost effective way.

The Black Max BM1W and BM2W ozone systems produce ozone on demand. This eliminates the high ongoing purchasing costs of chemicals such as chlorine and hydrogen peroxide, plus the risks associated with the use and storage of these potentially dangerous chemicals on a regular basis.

Black Max ozone systems are the ideal water purification solution for both hydroponics and nursery applications. Ozone is one of the most powerful fast acting oxidizing agents and one of the most effective bactericides. No harmful by-products are produced by the Black Max ozone generator and the use of air drying equipment is not required. Under normal conditions you will no longer need to use air bubblers, hydrogen peroxide or similar products.

Unlike other methods of water treatment, a Black Max ozone system will purify the holding tank water, and the nutrient tank water, by direct injection of ozone. Commercial hydroponic farmers have proven that direct injection of ozone into their water tanks, and feed water tanks, will improve plant health and increases plant yields.

Waterborne diseases are controlled by the injected ozone, which destroys fungi, pathogenic bacteria, viruses and organochlorines. Once the ozone has done its job in the water tank, the excess ozone will safely break down into oxygen, which will super oxygenate the nutrient solution. This abundant oxygen promotes rapid healthy root development. Plants grow faster and healthier, producing higher yields.

Several methods can be used to directly inject the ozone into the holding tank and nutrient solution tank water depending on the application. This vacuum is used to draw ozone out of the Black Max ozone generator, and directly inject this ozone into the water tanks.

Ozonated water can also be used for washing and rinsing produce, extending the shelf life of the treated produce by destroying pathogenic bacteria, fungi and moulds often found on the surface of the produce. The Black Max BM2W used in ozone rinsing systems, has achieved results which comply with the latest Australia wide certification standard SQF2000.

Black Max ozone generators are electrically approved by the Dept of Mines & Energy and is C-tick approved. Designed to last indefinitely, the Black Max is constructed from marine grade aluminium, and the compact heavy-duty design has no moving parts to wear out and requires no regular maintenance. Ozone output 1.5mg ozone per litre of air passing through the unit. For treatment of water reservoirs of up to 5,000 litres in holding tanks or run to waste systems, and 2,500 litres in recirculating systems. Larger water volumes can be treated with multiple units.
Dimensions: 110mm wide x 65mm deep x 430mm long.

Ozone Monitors and Controllers

Black Max high quality ozone monitors, both hand held units and static units, with or without data logging capability. This equipment can be used to measure and control the concentration of ozone inside any enclosed space without adequate ventilation, where staff or animals may be present for extended periods. The equipment can control an ozone generator, and even activate an alarm if the ozone concentration exceeds a preset level.
